Visible Mending – Repair as Decoration

Introduce visible mending as both a repair technique and a creative design choice. Discuss sustainability, slow fashion and the value of extending the life of well-loved clothing. Demonstrate basic hand stitches such as running stitch, whip stitch and simple reinforcement stitches. Participants practise on fabric samples, then begin planning a small repair on a garment or textile.

Outcome: each participant creates a stitched sample and develops a repair plan for an item they can continue working on.
