SCREENDANCE

Creative Journey/ Craft Talk: Screendance & the Art of Authorial Creation with Brian Toh

“Screendance as a medium, your artistry as the work.”

Nospace, Brian’s 1:1 consultancy/ mentorship programme, holds space for artists to develop their creative potential through one of the most niche mediums ever: dance-film. As Singapore’s first director and producer with an MA in Screendance, Brian brings over 10 years of experience working with dancers, artists, and creative workers.

His approach is rooted in the belief that by articulating thoughts about dance-films and curating our tastes, participants can clearly define their own creative practice. “Brian will hold the space for you—whatever your background, you take what you need.”

Date: 28th September 2026
Time: 2–4 pm
Location: Williamson Art Gallery

Schedule

  • 2:00 pm: Screening of Singaporean dance films (authorial works) by Brian Toh and more
  • 3:00 pm: Discussion and creative dialogue

About the Event

Step into a world where dance and film intertwine, where movement becomes poetry, and where the camera doesn’t just capture but dances with its subject. This Creative Journey/ Craft Talk invites you to explore the enchanting realm of screendance with Brian Toh, a Singaporean artist whose work bridges street-dance culture, commercial filmmaking, and screendance theory.

Through a carefully curated screening of authorial works, we’ll embark on a visual journey that challenges our perceptions of dance, film, and the spaces between. The subsequent discussion will be a vibrant exchange of ideas, where we’ll unravel the threads of creative process, artistic intention, and the unique language of screendance.

This Creative Journey talk is more than just an event—it’s an invitation to see the familiar through new eyes, to discover the extraordinary in the everyday, and to connect with a community of creators who believe in the transformative power of art.

Whether you’re a seasoned artist, an aspiring creator, or simply someone who appreciates the beauty of movement and storytelling, this afternoon promises to inspire, challenge, and delight.

All are welcome. No prior experience in dance or filmmaking required—just bring your curiosity!
